Stand Firm

Activity: Copycat Game

  • Play the Copycat Game
    • Choose 1 youth to be the one in the middle
    • Have them step out of the room.
    • Everyone else gets to begin the action being copied.
    • Have youth come back to the middle and begin to guess who is starting the actions being copied. (Play for about 5 minutes)
    • When they guess correctly switch out guesser and the one starting the copying actions.
    • Ask:
      • Who are we following in our lives?
      • Was it hard to watch the one starting the moves?
      • Was it hard to guess who was the leader?
      • How did you know who was the leader?

Say:

  • We talked last week about Timothy as Paul instructs him to be who God called him to be.
    • “approved to God” – only by genuine faith in Jesus (2 Timothy 1:9-10
    • “a worker” – we are all different and uniquely called – ex. Of soldier, athlete, farmer…
    • “be diligent” – Timothy could have used excuses not to be – he was sickly, young, fearful (timid)… 1 Timothy 4:8 Paul says “spiritual training is even more important than physical training”.
    • “teaching the Word of Truth” – wielding our sword takes skill & practice

Ask:

  • If you could have one super power – what would it be?”
  • “Which “super hero” do you think is the best & why?”
  • THE REAL SUPER HERO IS JESUS…Our Commander!

Read Revelation 1:7-8

  • Look, Jesus is coming with the clouds! Everyone will see him, even those who stabbed him. And all peoples of the earth will cry loudly because of him. Yes, this will happen! Amen. The Lord God says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega. I am the One who is and was and is coming. I am the All-Powerful.”

Say:

  • The One who Was”
    • Jesus is God and has ALWAYS existed!  He is the Alpha.
    • Have youth read John 1:1-3, 14
      • Vs1-3 – Before the world began, there was the Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were made through him. Nothing was made without him.
      • Vs14 – The Word became a man and lived among us. We saw his glory—the glory that belongs to the only Son of the Father. The Word was full of grace and truth.
    • Jesus was in the beginning creating the world; He is FULLY God.  He took on flesh at birth and became FULLY man in order to live a sinless, perfect life in a sinful, fallen world and then give that life as a payment for our sin when He died on the cross.
  • The One who is
    • Jesus arose from the grave and still lives!
    • Read Acts 7:55
      • But Stephen was full of the Holy Spirit. He looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God. He saw Jesus standing at God’s right side.
    • Read Romans 8:34
      • Who can say that God’s people are guilty? No one! Christ Jesus died, but that is not all. He was also raised from death. And now he is on God’s right side and is begging God for us.
  • Jesus is in us as believers through His Holy Spirit
    • Read 2 Corinthians 13:5
      • Look closely at yourselves. Test yourselves to see if you are living in the faith. You know that Christ Jesus is in you—unless you fail the test.
    • Read Colossians 1:27
      • God decided to let his people know this rich and glorious truth which he has for all people. This truth is Christ himself, who is in you. He is our only hope for glory
  • Jesus is interceding for us.
    • Read Hebrews 7:25
      • So he is always able to save those who come to God through him. He can do this, because he always lives, ready to help those who come before God.
    • Read 1 John 2:1
      • My dear children, I write this letter to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have Jesus Christ to help us. He is the Righteous One. He defends us before God the Father.
  • The one who is to come”
    • Jesus WILL come again!
  • Read Revelation 19:11-16
    • Then I saw heaven open. There before me was a white horse. The rider on the horse is called Faithful and True. He is right when he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like burning fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him, but he is the only one who knows the name. No other person knows the name. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood. His name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him on white horses. They were dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 A sharp sword comes out of the rider’s mouth. He will use this sword to defeat the nations. He will rule them with a scepter of iron. He will crush out the wine in the winepress of the terrible anger of God All-Powerful. 16 On his robe and on his leg was written this name: “KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
    • There are 3 names of Jesus
      • “The Word of God”, “King of Kings”, “Lord of Lords”

Say:

  • So we see that Jesus’ super power is ETERNAL and unmatched!  He is all-knowing, all-present, & all-powerful.  He is the Son of the One true God.
  • And the end of the story is……GOD WINS!!!!!!
  • And if we have Jesus….we win too!!!
